Policies

E-mail
Students can e-mail the instructor with any questions and expect to receive a response in a reasonable amount of time (less than a week). More urgent requests should be communicated through IM or phone calls.

Internet Access
Students are expected to have access to the Internet at all times throughout this course. Lecture notes, assignments, and class documents will be available through the class website, and students are responsible for checking for updates.

Laptop Usage
You may use laptops and/or audio recorders for note-taking purposes. No video recording devices are allowed without written consent from the instructor.

Server Access
Students are expected to use the Sulley webserver to store their work and assignments. Account set-up and password reset requests can be found at http://sulley.dm.ucf.edu/. Not being able to access Sulley will not be a valid excuse for failing to complete assignments on time.

Backups
You are required to maintain your own backups. If an assignment goes missing or gets deleted from the computer you have been working on, it is your responsibility to re-do the assignment and bring it to the instructor (accepting full penalties).

Grading and Evaluation
90-100: A / 80-89: B / 70-79: C / 60-69: D / 0-59: F
Grades will be reported using the MyUCF Grades system. Instructions are available here: https://myucfgrades.ucf.edu/help/.

Attendance and Participation
Attendance will be randomly taken throughout the semester and will factor slightly into your final grade. I don’t believe in 100% attendance as life tends to get in the way sometimes. Likewise, I know there are those of you out there who know some or most of the material presented in this class. Attendance points are not meant to punish you, but rather exist to keep those students who need to show up to learn in attendance. I will make every effort to grade accordingly.

Deadlines
I expect assignments to be completed on-time or early, if possible. I will accept NO LATE WORK unless excused by an official university event. Late equates to 1 second after the due date/time.

Grade Awareness
It is your responsibility to continually check your grades as they are posted. I will not answer questions about your grade or honor any changes to your grade if you ask me more than three weeks after it has been posted to the MyUCF Grades system.

Make-up and Extra Credit Work
There will be no class related extra credit opportunities this semester.

Academic Integrity
Plagiarism and cheating of any kind on an examination, quiz, or assignment will result at least in an “F” for that assignment (and may, depending on the severity of the case, lead to an “F” for the entire course) and may be subject to appropriate referral to the Office of Student Conduct for further action. See the UCF Golden Rule for further information. I will assume for this course that you will adhere to the academic creed of this University and will maintain the highest standards of academic integrity. In other words, don’t cheat by giving answers to others or taking them from anyone else. I will also adhere to the highest standards of academic integrity, so please do not ask me to change (or expect me to change) your grade illegitimately or to bend or break rules for one person that will not apply to everyone. Accommodations for the Differently-abled (alternate testing opportunities, support for signers, etc.)

Students with Disabilities
The University of Central Florida is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for all persons with disabilities. This syllabus is available in alternate formats upon request. Students with disabilities who need accommodations in this course must contact the professor at the beginning of the semester to discuss needed accommodations. No accommodations will be provided until the student has met with the professor to request accommodations. Students who need accommodations must be registered with Student Disability Services, Student Resource Center Room 132, phone (407) 823-2371, TTY/TDD only phone (407) 823-2116, before requesting accommodations from the professor.
